Winter doesn’t have to mean the end of your motorcycling season. In fact, with the right destination, you can still enjoy stunning rides, challenging mountain roads, and sun-drenched landscapes even in the colder months. Europe offers more winter-friendly motorcycle destinations than you might think. Here are five ideal places to ride this winter:

1. Andalusia, Spain

Andalusia is a dream for motorcyclists. In winter, the temperatures are pleasantly mild, often around 15–20°C. Combine that with a beautiful network of mountain roads, historic villages, and the rugged nature of the Sierra Nevada, and you’ve got a top destination. The roads are quiet and the asphalt is generally of good quality.

What makes Andalusia even more appealing is its diversity. You’ll ride through olive groves, past white mountain villages like Ronda and Grazalema, and across spectacular mountain passes. The region is large enough to keep you entertained for days without getting bored. And to top it off: the gastronomy is excellent and affordable.

Our tip: The Pueblos Blancos Route

Discover the heart of Andalusia with this stunning day trip along the iconic “Pueblos Blancos.” The route starts in Zahara de la Sierra and leads you via the spectacular Puerto de las Palomas mountain pass to Grazalema, Villaluenga del Rosario, Ubrique, El Bosque, and Prado del Rey. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views, charming village squares, white houses clinging to mountain slopes, and local specialties like handcrafted leather. Highlights include the Mirador de Los Asomaderos, the bullring in Villaluenga, and the leather workshops in Ubrique. With around 120 kilometers of winding roads, this route is perfect for those who love riding, discovering, and indulging.

2. The Algarve, Portugal

Portugal’s southern coast is a favorite among winter sunseekers, and it’s just as popular with motorcyclists. In addition to its mild climate, the region offers plenty of riding pleasure. Expect rolling inland roads, coastal routes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and picturesque fishing villages. The roads are varied and well-maintained, ideal for relaxed day trips with plenty of spots to stop for coffee or a sunny lunch.

Also nice: in winter, the crowds are gone, giving you plenty of space to ride and explore.

Our tip: From Aljezur to Porches

Experience a day full of curves along Portugal’s breathtaking Atlantic coast with the B1400 Aljezur – Porches touring route. Over a distance of about 147 km, you’ll discover scenic coastal roads, impressive views, and charming fishing towns. With a total riding time of about 2.5 hours and 1,459 meters of elevation, this route provides a rewarding challenge for enthusiastic riders. Perfect as a day trip for those who want to enjoy nature, culture, and twisty roads.

3. Morocco

Not technically in Europe, but often included in European motorcycle tours—and rightly so. From Spain, it’s easy to cross over to northern Morocco, and if you prefer to fly, there are plenty of rental options available. What awaits you? A unique mix of desert landscapes, mountain passes in the Rif and Atlas Mountains, and a completely different culture that awakens all your senses. A memorable experience for both road and off-road riders.

The roads around Chefchaouen, Fes, or the High Atlas are breathtakingly beautiful, and those seeking adventure can take off-road trails toward the Sahara. Expect challenging rides, dramatic views, and a warm welcome from locals. Just remember to gear up properly for the often significant temperature swings between day and night.

Our tip: From Bni Boufrah to Chefchaouen

This demanding 182 km motorcycle route takes you from peaceful Bni Boufrah to the iconic blue city of Chefchaouen. With an elevation gain of 4,091 meters and a ride time of about three hours, it’s perfect for experienced riders who enjoy technical roads, winding mountain passes, and stunning vistas. On the way, you’ll pass through rugged landscapes and authentic villages, ending in a city famous for its blue buildings and lively atmosphere—a perfect mix of riding, nature, and culture.

4. Canary Islands, Spain

If you're really chasing the sun, the Canary Islands are the place to be. Each island has its own character, but they all share key elements: fantastic asphalt, spectacular views, and a climate that allows year-round riding. From twisty mountain roads on Gran Canaria to the lunar landscape of Tenerife and the unforgettable scenery of La Palma, this is winter riding at its finest.

The roads here feel tailor-made for motorcyclists: smooth, well-maintained, and full of curves. Each island is incredibly diverse—ride through pine forests, lava fields, and along rugged coastlines, often all in one day. And the best part? You could win a motorcycle trip to the Canary Islands! Our tip: El Teide West Loop

Start your route from the coastal town of Puerto de la Cruz and head via the picturesque village of La Orotava to the top of El Teide. This dormant volcano (Europe’s highest mountain) offers not just amazing roads but also stunning views. You’ll ride through the Teide National Park and the Corona Forestal Nature Reserve before heading back toward the coast near Santiago del Teide. You’ll find plenty of charming places to eat, from traditional guachinches to cozy cafés. Continue your ride via Icod de los Vinos with its vineyards and lush plantations (don’t miss El Drago Milenario, the legendary dragon tree), and return to Puerto de la Cruz with sea views on your left and greenery on your right.

5. Sicily, Italy

Sicily may not be the first place that comes to mind for a winter motorcycle trip, but the island has everything you need. The temperatures are mild, the landscapes are incredibly diverse, and there’s a lot to see. From narrow mountain roads around Mount Etna to sweeping coastal routes and authentic villages—Sicily is a hidden gem for winter riders. And the local cuisine? Worth every stop.

What makes Sicily special is its blend of nature and culture. One day you’re riding past ancient temples, and the next you’re cruising through citrus groves on your way to a volcano. The route from Palermo to Catania via the northern coast is stunning, as are the inland roads through the Madonie Mountains. And since tourism slows down in winter, you’ll have much of this beauty to yourself.

Our tip: Palermo to Messina

The Palermo to Messina touring route is a scenic 320 km ride along Sicily’s northern coast. Starting in Palermo, a city full of history and attractions, you’ll follow the shoreline. Highlights include a detour to the charming fishing village of Cefalù and to Capo Tindari, where you’ll get incredible views of the sandbanks and the Aeolian Islands. The route combines the A20 with the scenic coastal road SS113.
