The secret of a GORE-TEX motorcycle boot lies in the revolutionary two-component membrane. The stretched PTFE portion of the membrane contains more than 1.4 billion microscopic pores per cm2. These pores are about 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, but about 700 times larger than a molecule of water vapor. So water in liquid form cannot penetrate the GORE-TEX® membrane, but water vapor (perspiration) can easily pass through. The result is a completely waterproof, windproof and highly breathable membrane.
